AI Agents / MCP Server
Connect an AI agent
Connect your Enterprise owner account to an AI assistant. It signs in with Swum and uses the areas, locations and approval level you choose.
The address
Swum runs an MCP server, the open standard AI tools use to call other apps. Use an MCP client that supports authenticated, stateless Streamable HTTP with JSON responses. The server accepts POST requests; it does not issue sessions or open a GET/SSE stream.
https://api.swum.ai/mcpInitialization supports protocol versions 2025-11-25, 2025-06-18 and 2025-03-26. Responses are JSON-RPC with text tool results; inspect isError as well as HTTP status. Write tools require an idempotency_key argument.
Connect in three steps
- Add the address to your agent. Most tools have a place for an MCP server or a “connector”.
- The agent opens Sign in with Swum. The school owner signs in, sees what the agent asks for, and picks its pools and its permission level.
- Done. The agent shows in Settings, Developers & Integrations, AI Agents, where you can change its level, see what it did, or disconnect it.
claude mcp add --transport http swum https://api.swum.ai/mcpBuilding your own agent? Sign in with Swum covers the OAuth details.
Steps for your AI app
Every app ends at the same Sign in with Swum page, and only the school owner can allow it. Gemini Enterprise and Microsoft Copilot Studio can't register themselves, so the owner first makes a connector for them in Swum.
Claude (claude.ai, desktop and mobile)
- Open Settings → Connectors and choose Add custom connector. On a Team or Enterprise plan, an owner adds it once in Organization settings → Connectors.
- Name it Swum and paste
https://api.swum.ai/mcp. Use OAuth with automatic client registration (DCR) when the client offers a registration choice. - Choose Connect, sign in to Swum as the school owner, pick what Claude may do and tap Allow.
Claude Code
- Run
claude mcp add --transport http swum https://api.swum.ai/mcp. - In Claude Code, run
/mcp, choose swum and Authenticate. Your browser opens Sign in with Swum.
ChatGPT
- Open Settings → Apps & Connectors → Advanced settings and turn on Developer mode. On Business or Enterprise, a workspace admin allows it first.
- Choose Create, name it Swum, paste
https://api.swum.ai/mcpand pick OAuth. - Create it, sign in to Swum, pick what ChatGPT may do and tap Allow. Turn Swum on in a chat from the + menu.
Codex (CLI and IDE extension)
- Run
codex mcp add swum --url https://api.swum.ai/mcp. - Run
codex mcp login swum. Your browser opens Sign in with Swum; allow it and return to Codex.
Gemini Enterprise
- In Swum, open Settings → Developers & Integrations → Apps → Gemini Enterprise → Connect, then Create Connector. Copy the secret now; Swum shows it once.
- In Google Cloud, open Gemini Enterprise → your app → Connected data stores → New data store → Custom MCP server.
- Paste the MCP server URL, Authorization URL, Token URL, Client ID, Client Secret and the scope
offline_access. Keep Use HTTP Basic Authentication on; PKCE can be on or off. The redirecthttps://vertexaisearch.cloud.google.com/oauth-redirectis already set in Swum. - Choose Verify Auth, sign in to Swum, pick what Gemini may do and tap Allow. Then turn on the Swum actions you want.
Microsoft Copilot Studio
- In Swum, open Settings → Developers & Integrations → Apps → Microsoft Copilot → Connect, then Create Connector. Copy the secret now; Swum shows it once.
- In Copilot Studio, open your agent → Tools → Add a tool → New tool → Model Context Protocol. Paste the MCP server URL, pick OAuth 2.0 → Manual and paste the Client ID, Client Secret, Authorization URL, Token URL (also the Refresh URL) and the scope
offline_access. - Choose Create. Copy the callback URL Copilot shows, paste it into the Swum connector and tap Save.
- Add the tool to your agent, create the connection, sign in to Swum and tap Allow.
Permission levels
You pick one when the agent connects, and can change it any time.
Read Only
The agent can look up permitted areas and locations. Write tools are hidden. A fabricated write call is refused.
Ask Me First
Every proposed write waits for the owner in Swummy. pending_approval means the change has not run. Grant, roster and location authority are checked again before execution.
Can Act
Eligible writes can run directly; sensitive operations still wait for owner approval. Money actions, pricing or staff permission changes, lesson cancellations/reschedules, messages to families and guarded record removals always ask. Some basic school profile changes can run directly. Enrollment request and direct-enrollment modes follow their own confirmation, capacity and billing checks. Undo is available only for supported unchanged operations.
Always asks for approval
Even on Can Act, the agent asks you first before it:
- Cancels a lesson
- Reschedules a lesson
- Moves money, including supported charges, refunds and contractor payments
- Changes pricing or staff permissions
- Sends a broadcast or changes a family message-board post or staff announcement
- Deletes a family or swimmer, merges swimmers, or performs another guarded removal
Tools can also prepare supported enrollment, billing, payroll, school settings and credential-email operations. Each choice describes its validation and approval requirements. Family payment-method management, bulk exports, owner bank-account setup and Swum administrator operations remain outside this connector. Personal family and instructor actions keep their own identity requirements.
Tools
The full catalog has 89 tools covering families, classes, lessons, attendance, payments, progress, waivers, team, messages, schedule, staff, settings, leads and reports. Reports remain read-only. Each operation needs its matching access and current school/location authority. A connected agent sees its permitted tools; Read Only hides business writes. Inputs for every tool.

Waiting for approval
On Ask Me First, a write tool doesn't make the change. It returns pending_approval and the request shows up in Swummy, in the Swum app, with the agent's name on it. You approve or decline there.
{
"status": "pending_approval",
"proposalId": "7a1991ec-5e37-43a0-a581-84e817790e4b",
"proposal_id": "7a1991ec-5e37-43a0-a581-84e817790e4b"
}Enrollment modes include family-confirmed requests, verified free occurrences and supported approved card/cash enrollment. Read the selected mode's schema and quote instead of treating an approval as proof that payment or enrollment has finished. Meet entries and any family fee checkout also keep their native confirmation steps.
The agent can check with get_proposal_status or the same connection’s GET /v1/proposals/{id}. States include pending, approved, executed, declined, failed and expired. approved means execution started; wait for executed before reporting completion. Proposals expire after 24 hours.
